Messages on Your TV

Your provider can put notices on your screen and restart your box remotely. Here is what those messages mean and which ones are worth acting on.

Your provider can send messages straight to your set-top box. They appear on screen while you are watching, and you dismiss them with OK on your remote.

Why your box sometimes restarts

Some messages restart the box after you press OK, and some updates — a refreshed channel list, for example — need a restart to take effect. A restart takes under a minute and nothing is lost.

If a message keeps coming back

A message stays queued for your box for a set period, so if your box has been switched off you may see several arrive at once when you turn it back on. That is normal and they can all be dismissed.

If the same message repeats every day, it is usually a real reminder — most often an expiry warning that will keep firing until the subscription is renewed.

If your service has stopped

  1. Check your expiry date on the storefront dashboard — an expired subscription is the most common cause.
  2. Restart the box.
  3. Check your internet connection is working on another device.
  4. If all three are fine, contact your provider. They can see whether your box is online and what it last connected to.
